Gandhi Labour Foundation may be just a
modest Institute in one corner of the
country. But those associated with it have
a vision for the future, a dream of bringing
about a transformation in the lives of the
working people and motivating them to take
up the task of nation building.
The instrument
that is expected to bring about this
transformation is education. Not the
education that stuffs information into the
heads of people, not the education that
divides people by creating an elite cadre of
managers and a mass of slaves who do all the
manual and repetitive work but man-making,
nation building education. Gandhi Labour
Foundation is guided by the vision of
Vivekananda and Gandhi who laid stress on
character building, on helping people to
develop the almost infinite potential that
is within them. Education should lay stress
on the dignity of labour, it should not be
divorced completely from the production
process in the fields, in the mines or in
the factories. Gandhiji wanted India to be a
land where the huge gap between the salaries
of the manual labourers and the top
management was narrowed down, if not
eliminated altogether.
Gandhi Labour
Foundation, deriving inspiration from these
and other great souls who wanted education
to turn out responsible citizens and not
human machines for squeezing out profits,
aims to turn out – a better worker, a better
citizen, a better human being.
Those
who are at the helm of affairs in the Gandhi
Labour Foundation conceive workers’
education as part of a movement, a movement
that will change attitudes and lead to a
peaceful society, a society based on social
justice.
GLF aspires
to be a catalyst in the “humanization of
development” that respects labour and allow
& workers to develop themselves for their
own benefit and for the good of society.
GLF is not overawed by
the immensity of the task that faces it. It
carries on with the conviction that the
support of those people and those
organizations that have helped to bring it
to its present stage will come forward to
help it to realize its goals.
