     Welcome to the Gandhi Labour Foundation (GLF), Puri. A beacon of hope in the twenty first century for the 'toiling millions', GLF stands committed to the education, development and empowerment of ALL WORKER in India, irrespective of their area of operation, caste, class, colour, creed, gender or political affiliation, if any.

      A specialised agency for Labour Studies, Welfare & Management and promotion Worker Education, the philosophy that distinctly guides GLF in, Man - making and Nation - building.     

     GLF is a dream child of visionaries who launched the institute for Miner's and Metalworker's Education (IMME) in 1979. IMME, through its National Education Centre (NEC) in Puri, regional centres in Dhanbad, Udaipur, Nagpur & Talcher and other extention centre, is building up a worker's  movement through its educational programmes that base itself on constructive knowledge and action.

     IMME's conscious effort to extend its base and reach led it to promote an umbrella organisation; it's National Education Centre inPuri was there by rechristened, GANDHI LABOUR FOUNDATION.  GLF came into being as a Trust on 16th of June 1999 under the Indian Trust Act, 1882. The hallmark of GLF is it's concern and voicing the plight of ALL WORKERS - not only the mine, metal and other workers in the organized sector but also workers, men and women, in the informal sector - both in urban and rural areas.

    Workers are the Spinning Wheels of the country. And we believe, as long as they are empathised, enlightened and encouraged, a society and a country can be assured of its achievements and progress.

A catalyst in ' humanisation of development' that  RESPECT  LABOUR and allow workers to develop themselves for their own benefit and for the good of the society.

GLF Objectives

Our objectives add meaning to our existence, being reflective of the philosophy that guide us, Man - making and Nation - building. GLF strives to promote:

Educational, cultural, economic, social and vocational training for both industrial and workers.

Impact education and Training under multiple heads that may include worker's education, social education, trade union education and technical, vocational training for workers. wherever and whenever necessary.

Research / Studies and Documentation in any subject, in any sector - formal and / or informal - beneficial for the workers, industry as well as the country.

Support welfare programmes, schemes and studies for women and other weaker and neglected sections of the society

Publish study materials, literatures, books, pamphlets, journal and the like and produce audio - visual materials in furthering the objectives set by the foundation

Establish and maintain hostels, libraries and reading room to enhance the furthering of the foundation


In fulfilling it's objectives, wherever necessary or feasible, GLF is open for establishing contacts, collaborating and entering into arrangements at the local, national and international level, with individual and institutions with similar corner and objectives. Preserving our identity, we believe in being PARTNERS IN PROGRESS.
